Long Overdue News!

13 09 2009

Hi Guys,

As you may already knew that I have been occupied for last few days.   So far everyone played so well and they are in a good health!    I enjoyed every minute of it, even through both of my roles, sport therapist/player were hard working.

As promised, here are the results of all GB Players:

Team Event – 09 / 09/ 09 (look at this date!)   Unfortunately we were in a bad draw and we were playing against Chinese Taipei, Korea and Hong Kong.  Both Chinese Taipei and Korea got through to Semi Finals.  We were very close to beat Chinese Taipei to get through to Semi Final by 1 point!  Korea has won Gold, Russia came 2nd, Luthiuna came 3rd and Chinese Taipei came 4th.

GBR vs KOREA

1. Men Singles Xander Hurley vs Jinwoo Choi (KOR)  LOST 7 – 21, 6 – 21

2. Women Singles Kirsty Allen vs Eun Kyung YU (KOR) LOST 7 – 21, 11 – 21

3. Men Doubles Rajeev Bagga/Carl Sadler vs Lee/Sin (KOR)- LOST 21 – 12, 17 – 21, 14 – 21

4. Ladies Doubles Kirsty Allen/Andrea Hardwick vs JEONG/YU (KOR) LOST 4 -21, 3 – 21

5. Mixed Doubles Rajeev Bagga/Andrea Hardwick vs SIN/JEONG (KOR) LOST 21 – 18, 19 – 21, 13 – 21

GBR vs HONG KONG

1. Men Singles Rajeev Bagga vs CHAN  WON 21 – 4, 21 – 4

2. Women Singles Kirstie Allen vs TING WON 21 – 8, 21 – 7

3. Men Doubles Carl Sadler/Dominic Caswell vs CHAN/CHAN WON 21 – 6, 21 – 10

4. Woman Doubles Kirstie Allen/Andrea Hardwick vs CHU/CHIM WON 21 – 13, 21 – 8

5. Mixed Doubles Caroline Bird/Carl Sadler vs YU/HO WON 21-10, 21-8

GBR vs Chinese Taipei

LOST 2 – 3

For all individual Events

Today Rajeev Bagga has won his singles game to get through to final tomorrow.  Men Doubles, Rajeev Bagga and Carl Sadler lost by 2 points to Russian pairs.  They will play for bronze tomorrow at 4pm.

Mixed Doubles, Carl Sadler/Andrea Hardwick, Xander Hurley/Kirstie Allen and Dominic Caswell/Caroline Bird have reached top 16.  We all lost the games yesterday.  Carl/Andrea have a very strong opponent and lost the match by 2 points!   Xander/Kirstie lost to No. 4 seeded mixed double players Olver Witte/Saskia Fischer (GERMANY).  They got 14 points out from them in 2nd game.  Well played.

My mixed double game was unlucky as my mixed double partner Dominic Caswell has injuried in his left knee.  He was unable to push hard on the court.  We lost to Korea 21-18, 12-21 and 13-21.  It was very disappointed as we could have won this game to the quarterfinals.

Carl Sadler and Andrea Hardwick had a tough game against Russian Sedova / Efremov LOST 18 – 21, 18-21  They were very disappointed as they could have won the match.

Tomorrow at 2pm Rajeev will play against a hot player from Russia, Karpov in the final.  Karpov has won Men Doubles, Mixed Double and Singles in Semi Final today.  He will play all three finals tomorrow.  He is one to watch out for!

Carl Sadler/Rajeev Bagga will play for 3rd/4th places tomorrow afternoon at 4pm against Lee/Sin (KOREA).

Go Go Go GBR!

I will write some more news – who knows when… watch this space.

Badminton Team Events – Results Day 1

6 09 2009

We found out that the draw in the team event are not exactly favorable, in our round robin group we have Korea (No.1 seeds), Hong kong and Chinese Taipei (home country with huge fanbase), out of four teams in each group only the top two gets through to the quaterfinals.

This morning we played and lost to Korea, but beat Hong Kong, so it is all resting on the final team match against the home nation who are a tough side!

Tomorrow morning at 9am we will play against Chinese Taipei, local team.  We hope to beat them to able us to get through to the quarterfinal… The GB team have gone to bed early tonight.  We will get up at 6am for breakfast and then catch taxi at 7am to the badminton hall.

Hopefully soon the photos will be uploaded. In meantime there are excellent photos / video clips you can view on http://www.bslbt.co.uk/sports/gallery/badminton/ and http://www.deaflympics.tv/

Write more soon.

Good night

Caroline
